The History of Alpha Omicron (excerpt from The History of Alpha Phi Alpha by Charles H. Wesley pp. 147-148) Alpha Omicron Chapter was established on May 4, 1923. During the year of 1922, a visit was made to the campus of Johnson C. Smith University, then Biddle University, by Brother Victor R. Daly. The students there became interested in the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Acting upon the advice of Brother Daly, correspondence began with the General Secretary, Brother McGhee. The school year closed without any definite action being taken.
During the following school year, this group of students organized a club which was known as the "Alpha Aspirants." The application of this group was sent to the Fifteenth Convention at St. Louis. This application was referred to the Executive Committee for investigation. In March 1923, a notice was received from the General Secretary stating that upon the recommendation of the Executive Committee, the application of the "Alpha Aspirants" had been approved. On May 4, 1923, in St. Michael's Parish Hall, the Alpha Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity INC was established.
